  • To work out the axis of symmetry for the given quadratic in vertex form

Solution :

We know that,

  • Axis of symmetry (x) = x-coordinate of the vertex (h)

The quadratic equation in vertex form is given by,


  • y = (x - h) {}^(2) + k

wherein,

  • (h,k) = co-ordinates of the vertex

Comparing it with the given quadratic,we get,

  • h = -4
  • k = -4

Thus,

  • Axis of symmetry = - 4
