I’m on a traffic STO and I fail to provide identification but the cops can’t articulate to me why I’m being pulled over. Am I doing something illegal?

Generally speaking, police officers are not required to articulate why they are pulling you over on a traffic stop. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t need probable cause that you have committed a traffic violation. While they may not have to articulate to you why they stopped you, they must be able to articulate such information if you were, for instance, in a court of law.
