Answer: (4/3, 5/3)

Explanation:

Substitute equation 1 into equation 2:

-x + 3 = 2x - 1

Add x to both sides:

3 = 3x - 1

Add 1 to both sides:

4 = 3x

Divide both sides by 3:

4/3 = x

Substitute that back into one of the equations:

y = -x + 3

y = -(4/3) + 3

y = -4/3 + 9/3

y = 5/3

Double check to make sure you get the same answer in both equations:

y = 2x - 1

y = 2(4/3) -1

y = 8/3 - 1

y = 8/3 - 3/3

y = 5/3

We got the same answer for y both times, so we know that we got the correct x and y pair.
