Answer:

'Childhoods' connote innocence and joy, 'bedroom' is seen as the safest place in the house by some, and 'take each other to bits' can be interpreted as lust and admiration or anger and revenge, both contrast the overall theme of break-up of the poem. The whole quote is a juxtaposition/oxymoron (whatever you call it) of the ending of a relationship.
