1) Note the compound must be cylic meaning it forms a complete ring.

2) every atom in the ring must be able to participate in pi bonding also known as fully conjugated (i.e. carbons which do not have 4 single bonds)

3) it must follow the 4n + 2pi rule, meaning it can have 2, 6, 10, 14, 18, etc pi electrons.

4(0) + 2 = 2

4(1) + 2 = 6

4(2) +2 = 10

etc...

so hexane has 6 carbons forming a ring, they have 3 pi bonds (or 6 pi electrons 3*2 electrons per pi bond) and 6 pi electrons follows the 4n +2pi rule.
