Answer:

a = 7 , b = 484

Explanation:

given p² ∝ t , then the equation relating them is

p² = kt ← k is the constant of proportionality

to find k , use any ordered pair from the table

using t = 36 when p = 3 and substituting into the equation

3² = 36k

9 = 36k ( divide both sides by 36 )

(9)/(36) =
(36)/(36) k , that is

(1)/(4) = k or k = 0.25

p² = 0.25t ← equation of proportion

substitute p = a , t = 196 , into the equation

a² = 0.25 × 196 = 49 ( take square root of both sides )

√(a^2) =
√(49) , that is

a = 7

now substitute t = b, p = 11 into the equation

11² = 0.25b

121 = 0.25b ( divide both sides by 0.25 )

(121)/(0.25) =
(0.25)/(0.25) b , that is

484 = b
