Before the Estates-General meeting in France in 1789, It had been over 175 years since the king had agreed to meet with delegates from the three Estates. The Estates-General was convened by King Louis XVI in response to a financial crisis in France, and it marked a rare occasion when representatives from the clergy, the nobility, and the commoners (the Third Estate) were called together to discuss and address the issues facing the country.
