Answer:

y = 80°

x = 25

Explanation:

I am not familiar with the stinky shoe method but here is how to do it

Q13 Value of y

y and 100° are on the same straight line and therefore they are supplementary angles

That means that they add up to 180°

That means y + 100° = 180°

Subtracting 100 from either side gives
y = 180 - 100 = 80°

Q14 Value of 4

The picture is not very clear but I believe the third angle is given by the expression 2x + 10

There are two ways to find this third angle:
(a) The sum of the two opposite interior angles of a triangle = exterior angle

Here the exterior angle = 100° and the two opposite interior angles are 40° and (2x + 10)°

So 40 + (2x + 10) = 100

Subtract 40 from both sides:
2x + 10 = 100- 40
2x + 10 = 60

So the third angle = 60°
2x + 10 = 60
2x = 60 - 10
2x = 50

Divide both sides by 2 to get
x = 50/2
x = 25

(b)
The sum of the three angles of a triangle must add up to 180°

The three angles are 40°°, 80° and (2x + 10)°
Therefore 40 + 80 + (2x + 10) = 180
120 + 2x + 10 = 180
2x + 130 = 150
2x = 180 - 130
2x = 50 as before
x = 25

Both methods are equivalent

Answer:

13. y=80

14. x=25

Explanation:

13.
y=180-100\\y=80\\

14.
180=40+2x+10+80\\180=130+2x\\2x=180-130\\2x=50\\x=(50)/(2) \\x=25
