x+3y=-14

3x+5y=-18

Multiply first equation by 3

3x+9y=-42 (1)

3x+5y=-18 (2)

(1) - (2) ( subtract)

4y= -24⇒ y= -6

put the value of y in ( 2 )

3x-30=-18 ⇒3x=12 ⇒x=4

∴x=4 and y=-6
