Why do you only need one copy of a dominant trait gene to have that trait?

Each gamete contains a single copy of every chromosome contains one allele for every gene. There for, each allele for a givin gene is packaged into a separate gamete. For example: a fly with the genotype Bb will produce two types of gametes:B and b
