5x + 5 = 0.4 (5x - 10) what is the answer for this equation?

Answer:

x = -3

Explanation:

1) Expand any brackets there are

To expand brackets we have to multiply everything outside the bracket by everything inside the bracket!

  • 0.4 × 5x = 2x
  • 0.4 × -10 = -4
  • 2x-4

2) Get rid of the smallest value of x

To leave x only on one side we have to get rid of the smallest one!

  • 5x + 5 = 2x - 4
  • 5x + 5 - 2x = 3x + 5
  • 2x - 4 - 2x = -4

3) Isolate the x

  • 3x + 5 = -4
  • 3x = -9
  • x = -3

This means x = -3
