x = 5

Explanation:

2x + 4x - 7 = 23 ( collect like terms on left side )

6x - 7 = 23 ( add 7 to both sides )

6x = 30 ( divide both sides by 6 )

x = 5

As a check

substitute x = 5 into the left side of the equation and if equal to the right side then it is the solution.

2(5) + 4(5) - 7 = 10 + 20 - 7 = 30 - 7 = 23 = right side

then x = 5 is the solution to the equation
