(3*3+1 = 10/3 - both denominators (the bottom number) need to be the same so you need to make the mixed number 3 1/3 into an improper fraction first 10/3)

10/3 - 5/6 =

(10/3 * 2/2 = 20/6 - take the 10/3 and multiply by 2 which gives you 20/6)

20/6 - 5/6 = (now subtract which give you 15/6)

15/6 =

2 3/6 =

2 1/2 (lowest form)
