When put on a coordinate plane, 1st street has the equation y = 6x – 7. 2nd street is parallel to 1st street and goes through the point (2, 9). Write the equation for 2nd Street in slope-intercept form.

Answer:

y = 6x - 21

Explanation:

When a line is parallel, this means it has the same slope. This means that the y intercept can be literally any number besides -7 (because a line cannot be parallel to itself).

Because we do not have a y intercept, we will have to write this equation in point slope form and convert it into slope intercept form.

We know that the slope is 6, so we just fill in the points for y1 and x1.

y-9=6(x-2)

Distribute 6

y-9=6x-12

Add 9 to both sides

y=6x-21

And that's the equation in slope intercept form!
