A physical science student is doing an experiment on open systems. It records the temperature of the contents inside a container and again after five minutes. The recordings are in the table below.
hich statement best describes how energy is changing between Time 1 and Time 2?
Heat is being added to the system, so particles have more kinetic energy.
Heat is being removed from the system, so particles have less kinetic energy.
Heat is not exchanged, only the particles are moving slower.
Heat is not exchanged, only the particles are moving faster.

Answer: Heat is being added to the system, so particles have more kinetic energy.

Explanation: When thermal energy, or heat is added to a substance, its particles will gain kinetic energy and they will start moving faster than before. Also you can see the in the two temperatures, it is increasing meaning heat is being added. Also I got 100 on the test. :)

Answer:

Based on the information given, it is not possible to determine whether heat is being added to or removed from the system. However, we can make an inference based on the change in temperature. If the temperature increased from Time 1 to Time 2, then heat was likely added to the system, as particles gained kinetic energy and moved faster. Conversely, if the temperature decreased from Time 1 to Time 2, then heat was likely removed from the system, as particles lost kinetic energy and moved slower. Therefore, the statement that best describes how energy is changing between Time 1 and Time 2 is "Heat is being added to the system, so particles have more kinetic energy" or "Heat is being removed from the system, so particles have less kinetic energy," depending on the direction of the temperature change.
