using Pythagoras' identity in the right triangle

x² + y² = (2
√(6) )² , that is

x² + x² = 24

2x² = 24 ( divide both sides by 2 )

x² = 12 ( take square root of both sides )

√(4(3)) =
√(4) ×
√(3) = 2
√(3)

then

x = y = 2
