designated authority is when a department is given a task from the federal government to specialize in and create rules and regulations for. For example, the FDA. The federal government says “your food can’t make people sick” and designates the authority to the FDA. The FDA then decides that meat can’t have pesticide residue and vegetables have to be washed before they’re sold. The Federal Government delegates the authority to the FDA.
