In a local school there is group of students who always pick on and tease another group of students. They call them names, sometimes even using racist remarks. One of them even fake punched a student just to scare the younger and smaller students, and they are really mean. I am the one that always has to witness this but I don't know what to do. I want to just go over there and punch one of the students that is being rude, but I'll get in huge trouble. What should I do? Please write out advice to the student. Tell them a few ways they can be a champion and then share a few ways they can also protect themselves in a situation where there are groups of kids and the tensions are high. Also explain what adults they need to get involved and how. Share a few effects of bullying as a bystander and how to deescalate the situation. Please use full sentences to complete your thoughts.

Answer:

How does this impact bystanders?

Anxiety – Bystanders also can develop anxiety about bullying. After witnessing an incident, some bystanders begin to worry that they will be the next targets especially if the bullying is severe or an ongoing issue at the school.

Children that are exposed to others being verbally and physically bullied are at risk of developing depression because they don’t know how to handle the emotions they are seeing and feeling.

Fear... Fear is another reason why bystanders fail to do anything when they witness bullying. Some bystanders are afraid to say anything because they feel embarrassed

.Guilt – After the bullying incident is over, many bystanders are weighed down with guilt.

You can de-escalate the situation by intervening immediately, Separate the kids involved. Make sure everyone is safe. Meet any immediate medical or mental health needs. Stay calm. Reassure the kids involved.
