How would the Townshend and quartering acts affect a merchant (who is a colonist)?

The Townshend Acts taxed imports in the United States, which would cause major problems for a merchant, who most likely relies on selling imported goods, which means they're essentially now making less money. The quartering act would affect a merchant less, however this would also take away income because they are now providing for and spending money on food and housing for a soldier that is not even part of the colonies.
