The history of California, on January 1847, the state had surrendered to the U.S. In addition, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo at it end of the war gave California to the United States on February 2, 1848. Additionally, prior to California becoming a state in the union, the most well known and impactful event in the history of California took place: the discovery of gold in 1848. Moreover, without becoming a territory, California was admitted to the Union as the 31st state on September 9, 1850.
