\boxed{4} \\\\\\ (x+3)^2~~ = ~~[(x-1)+10](x-1)\implies x^2+6x+9~~ = ~~(x+9)(x-1) \\\\\\ x^2+6x+9~~ = ~~x^2+8x-9\implies 6x+9=8x-9\implies 9=2x-9 \\\\\\ 18=2x\implies \cfrac{18}{2}=x\implies 9=x
