Scientists are important because they research and find these things and give us information. According to scientists, five mass extinction events have occurred on Earth so far: the Ordovician Extinction (450 million years ago), the Devonian Extinction (380 million years ago), the Permian Extinction (250 million years ago), the Triassic Extinction (200 million years ago) and the Cretaceous Extinction (65 million years ago).
