What is 8 and 5/8 minus 4 and 1/4

First you got to get the fractions to have the same denominator (or bottom number)

In this case it would be 8. You would multiply the 4 in 1/4 to get 8, and what you do to the bottom you have to do to the top, so the 1 would multiply by 2 as well to get to.

So the new equation would be,

- 4
(2)/(8)

5-2= 3

And the denominator stays the same so the fraction would be 3/8.

8-4=4 so the whole number would be 4

Making the full answer 4 3/8
