Explanation:

You're basically just doing the pythagorean theory: a^2+b^2=c^2

You just are not directly being given a or b and instead you have to find them which you do by subtracting how big the garden is from the total length: 50-20=30(a) 30-14=16(b). After that you just do the normal theory getting 30^2+16^2=c^2 which leads to 900+256=c^2 then 1156=c^2 so you take the square root of both sides in order to turn c^2 into plain c or the length of the walk way which will get you 34 feet.
