= 20 + 30 + 10 + 12
= 72

The relative area of each pie in the pie chart will be in the ratio of

number of people who prefer a color ÷ total number of people

The central angles of each pie category = above ratio x 360°

  • Fraction of people who prefer red = 20/72
    Central angle = 20/72 x 360 = 100°
  • Fraction of people who prefer blue = 30/72
    Central angle = 30/72 x 360 = 150°
  • Fraction of people who prefer green = 10/72
    Central angle = 10/72 x 360 = 50°
  • Fraction of people who prefer purple = 12/72
    Central angle = 12/72 x 360 = 60°

These angles should add up to 360°
