The figure shows a rectangular tank of length 25 cm and width

20 cm. The depth of water is 28 cm. A cube of side 10 cm is
now taken out of water. If no water is spilled out, find the new
depth of water.

Answer: 26 cm

Explanation:

find the volume of your tank:

formula: L x W x B

25 x 20 x 28 = 14000 cm^3

now find the volume of the cube:

formula: L^3 or L x L x L

10 x 10 x 10 = 1000

now find the new volume since we removed the cube:

tank - cube

14000 - 1000 = 13000 cm^3

we will now use the rectangle volume formula with our new volume, assuming depth as d:

25 x 20 x d = 13000

500d = 13000

d = 13000/500

d=26 cm
