Answer: 78 sq. Units

Explanation:

Since you know that there is one big rectangle in the center that is made out of small rectangles, you can just do 10 times 7. You know the outside perimeter is 10 because you know that the longer side is 4 units long, and the smaller one is 1 unit. So, if you multiply 4 by 2 and multiply 1 by 2 and then add the products you get 10. Though this isn’t where you stop. There is still the small rectangles on either side of the large rectangle. It is the same thing length x width. So it’s 4 x 1 = 4. But, there are two of the rectangles so you multiply 4 by 2 and get eight. Then you add your two areas together. 70+8=78

78 sq. Units

4+4+1+1=10

10x7=70

2(1x4)=8

70+8=78
