The width of a rectangle is 2 units less than the length. The area of the rectangle is 24 square units. What is the length, in units, of the rectangle?.

Answer:

Area = (l) (w) Subst and simplify to find dimension . Area = (l)(l-2) =24 —— l^2 -2l -24 = 0. Use Quadratic formula, a=1, b=-2 and c=-24 —— l = 2+/- SqRt((4 -4(1)(-24) / 2 where “l” = 6 cm and “l” = -4 cm (discard). Subst : (6)(6–2) = 6 x 4 = 24.
