At a local fitness​ center, members pay an ​$8 membership fee and ​$3 for each aerobics class. Nonmembers pay ​$5 for each aerobics class. For what number of aerobics classes will the cost for members and nonmembers be the​ same?

Answer: 4 classes

Explanation:

8 dollars is the base price for a membership fee. Let's say that 3x+8=y, 3x because we pay 3 dollars for each class. on the other hand, we have 5x=y, meaning that we pay 5 for each class. if we set the equations equal to each other we have 3x+8=5x. By solving this we get 2x=8 and x=4. 4 classes is the number at which they are equal.
