Answer:

Perimeter of give square: 36

Perimeter of dilated (smaller) square: 12

Area of give square: 81 (in square units)

Area of dilated (smaller) square: 27 (in square units)

Explanation:

Any square has four sides of equal length. You know that one side of the larger square is 9 so you also know that the larger square has four sides of 9 units each.

Formulas for a square:

p = 2l + 2w

a = lw

when l = length and w = width. Once again, you know that for a square, length is the same a width so:

p = l + w

p = 2(9) + 2(9)

p = 18 + 18

p = 36 of larger square

a = lw

a = 9(9)

a = 81 of larger square

________________________________________________

You know that the smaller square is 1/3 the size of the larger square. So, you can take what you know about the larger square to find the smaller square.

perimeter of larger square = 36

perimeter of smaller square: 36/3 = 12

area of larger square = 81

area of smaller square: 81/3 = 27
