A light fitting of mass 3 kg is hung from a timber beam by two identical chains each
inclined at 55° to the beam. Taking g = 9.8 m/s², find the tension in each of the
chains, correct to the nearest newton.

The diagram shows two objects of mass 5 kg and 3 kg
attached to the ends of a light inextensible string that passes
over a smooth pulley. The tension in the string is 7 newtons.
Take g = 9.8 m/s².
Find the downwards acceleration of the 5 kg object.
b Find the value of T.

Answer:

Tension is 36.75 N

Step-by-step explanation:

yea the 2nd one-:

Using F = ma,

For 5 kg particle;

For 3 kg particle; Adding; 2g

a

5g − T T − 3g

= 5a [1] = 3a

= 8a

= 14 g s − 2

∴ Acceleration is 2.45 m Substituting into equation [1]

5 g − T = 5 × 14 g 15 g = T
