which a foreign, often European, population colonizes an area through the use of force, land appropriation, and exploitation of the local population. It is a form of colonialism rooted in the displacement of existing populations, the destruction of traditional cultures, and the forcible integration of new social, political and economic structures. The most critical element of settler colonialism is the displacement of native populations, as the colonists have appropriated land and resources in order to create their own nation-states. This displacement has resulted in the erasure of indigenous cultures, the destruction of traditional ways of life, and the subjugation of native peoples.
