Answer: 2t + 5 = 15; t = 5

Explanation:

Just by looking at the lines, you can see that each segment of the black line measures to 5. We can check that by multiplying 5 x 3 (5 + 5 + 5) to get 15 which is the measure of all the three line segments combined. We know each segment now equals 5 (so t = 5), but just in case lets check our equation by solving it.

Solve this equation just like you would a common algebra problem:

1. SUBTRACT 5 from 15 on the right side of the equation. (15 - 5 = 10)

2t + 5 = 15

2. DIVIDE 2 from 2t to isolate the variable. (10/2 = 5)

2t = 10

3. ANSWER should be:

t = 5
