in the forests and bogs, free as the winds, gathering plants...

Answer:

This passage has a neutral tone. When you wander, you move or walk in a casual way. If the words "travel" and "lonely as the solitary cloud, collecting and numbering plants" replaced the bold words, it would create a negative tone. For example, when you call someone lonely it's never in a good way.
