Bella was making a dress. She cut 1 1/3 yards of pink fabric. Then she cut 2 5/6 yards of brown fabric. How much fabric did Bella cut in all?

We can add the two lengths of fabric:

(1 1/3) + (2 5/6) yards

Convert both the fractions:

(1 1/3) = (3/3) + (1/3) = (4/3)

(2 5/6) = (12/6)+(5/6) = (17/6)

Noqw add the two pieces: (4/3) + (17/6)

In oder to add these two fraqctions, they must first have the same denominator. If we multiplied by the first fraction by (2/2), we get:

(2/2)*(4/3) = (8/6) Now this can be added to the second fraction:
