Ladder X is twice as long as ladder Y. Ladder Z is 235 cm shorter than ladder X. If ladder Z is 785 cm long, then what is the total length of the three ladders?

Explanation:

ladderX=2×ladderY=2LadderY

X=2Y

ladderZ=ladder X-235

X=Z+235

but ladder Z=785cm

so,ladderX=785+235

theefore ladderX=1020cm

remember that LadderX=2×ladderY

X=2Y

making Y the subject of formula

Y=X/2=1020/2=510cm

so total length of ladders = length of (X+Y+Z)

=1020+510+785=2315cm
