The answer is (1,2)

For elimination you multiply all of the terms in the first line by -2 because it gives you one of the terms as -6y which combines with 6y in the line below which leaves you to solve for x. x=1 and with this you can plug it into either equation to get y=2.

Answer: (1,2)

Explanation:

To use elimination, we have to get it so one variable to cancels out. If we multiply the top equation by -2, we are able to eliminate the y's. The -2 multiplies to everything in that equation. We end up with this

-4x - 6y = -16

5x + 6y = 17

The y's cancel out so we then get this

-4x = -16

5x = 17

We can now just add vertically and get this

x = 1

We know have the value for x so we can plug that into one of the equations to find out what y is. You can use any equation but I'm going to use the top one.

2(1) + 3y = 8

Now solve!

2 + 3y = 8

-2 -2

3y = 6

/3 /3

y = 2

Now that you have your x and y, just make them into a coordinate point. Your final answer will be (1,2)
