\sqrt{(x1-x2)^(2)+(y1-y2)^(2) }

=
\sqrt{(-8-4)^(2)+(1--4)^(2) }

\sqrt{-12^(2)+5^(2) }

=
√(144+25)

=
√(169)

= 13

∴ the distance WX between the two points on a coordinate plane is 13.
