Answer:

x = 10, y = 20

Explanation:

angles in a triangle add up to 180°

so 90° + 45° + a = 180°

a = 180° - 90° - 45°

a = 45°

so the unknown angle in the triangle is 45°

90/y = 45/10

90×10 = 45×y

45y = 900

45y/45 = 900/45

y = 20

45/x = 45/10

45 × x = 45 × 10

45x = 450

45x/45 = 450/45

x =10

Answer:

x = 10

y = 10√2 = 14.142

Explanation:

Since we are given 2 angles 45° and 90° and the three angles of a triangle add up to `180° the third angle included by x and y must be
180-(90 + 45) = 45

So we have a triangle which has two angles equal i.e. an isosceles triangle.

Hence x = 10

y = √(10² + 10²) by the Pythagorean formula:
y = √200

= √100√2

= 10√2

= 14.142
