Type a paragraph using your spelling words. Every time you use a spelling word, use the homophone for the word instead.

For example: You never seem to get board. What is your secret?

In this example, the word board is used, when truly the word bored is the one that is needed. For your writing, you will write sentences like the one above, with the incorrect homophone.

Before you begin writing your paragraph, examine the rubric to make sure you understand the expectations.

After you have written your sentences, you will need to create an answer key so that if another student was revising your paragraph, they would know the right answers to be able to check their work.

board a long piece of wood used in building

bored to have nothing to do; a state of discontentment

cent a coin, usually a penny

pedal a lever or handle that is operated with the feet

peddle to attempt to sell something

scent the smell or odor of something

throne an ornate seat, usually for royalty

thrown something that has been pitched or tossed

waist the midsection of the body

waste to use carelessly

I like to peddle down to the park on my bike, but it's hard to stay on the seat because it's so waist-ed. The scent of the flowers is so strong, it's almost like being on a thrown. When I get there, I like to throw a frisbee around, even if it means being board. Sometimes I'll even bring a piece of board to use as a ramp, which is more fun than being bored. I hope I don't waste too much time, though, because I have to be home before I run out of cent-s.

Answer Key:

peddle - pedal
waist-ed - wasted
thrown - throne
board - bored
board - board
cent-s - cents
