In order to see if the ordered pairs are solutions to the inequality, start graphing the inequality.

This is the same graph for the absolute value function five units down, but with a dashed line since the inequality does not have an equal sign and we shadow the portion that is above the graph, like this:

Then, graph the points

The only solution is (-4,1) because the solutions that lie on the dashed line do not belong to the solution set.
