Answer:

  • x = 5

-------------------------

Parallel lines cut transversals proportionally.

We got equal ratios:

  • 6/(x - 1) = (x - 2)/2
  • (x - 1)(x - 2) = 6*2
  • x² - 3x + 2 = 12
  • x² - 3x - 10 = 0
  • x² - 5x + 2x - 10 = 0
  • x(x - 5) + 2(x - 5) = 0
  • (x + 2)(x - 5) = 0
  • x + 2 = 0 and x - 5 = 0
  • x = - 2 and x = 5

x = - 2 doesn't work as it reveals a negative side length, so the answer is x = 5.
