How did southern state legislatures prevent blacks from voting? Explain and describe methods of disenfranchisement.

The southern states used tactics like intimidation, quizzes, and poll taxes
They would give quizzes to black people that had difficult questions if you hadn’t had an education which was many black people at the time or ones that had confusing instructions. They would use poll taxes since black people were in usually in poverty and couldn’t afford to pay them. They would also threaten to harm black people if they tried to vote.

Poll taxes, literacy tests, fraud, and intimidation were all ways that were used to prevent African Americans from voting. They used poll taxes because at that time most African Americans didn’t have enough money for the poll taxes. They used literacy tests because at the time most of the African American population were illiterate or they were not fluent. Many couldn’t read or write.
