Well since we know that they are multiplying and have the same base we can just add the exponential power.

(x^4)(x^2) = x^(4 +2) = x^6

(x^3)(x^5) = x^(3+5) = x^8

When we are dividing we are subtracting the exponential power.

x^6 / x^8 = x^(6-8) = x^-2

x^-2 = 1 / x^2
