14% of the towns population, or above the age of 65 if there are about 320 residence over the age of 65, then what is the towns population?

Please help me!!

well, the town's population is really "x", which oddly enough is the 100%, now, we also know that 14% of that is 320.


\begin{array}{ccll} amount&\%\\ \cline{1-2} x & 100\\ 320& 14 \end{array} \implies \cfrac{x}{320}~~=~~\cfrac{100}{14} \\\\\\ \cfrac{ x }{ 320 } ~~=~~ \cfrac{ 50 }{ 7 }\implies 7x=(320)(50)\implies x=\cfrac{(320)(50)}{7}\implies x\approx 2285
