1. California's entry to the Union was delayed because the California constitution banned slavery and caused crisis in Congress. Some Southern states objected to make California a state because it would "upset the balance of free and slave states".

2. He (joseph) believed that every man could be a priest and that everyone had in him the possibility of the divine. The purpose of the temple rituals was to give people the knowledge they needed to enter God's presence and to become like God.

3. The mormons made Deseret flourish through hard work and determination. They planned towns and irrigation canals doe their farms. Taxed property and regulated the use of water, timber, and other resources. Founded industries so they could be self-sufficient.
