Nettie was afraid of heights. She had been since the first time she went on a Ferris wheel as a child. Now it was starting to get in her way. She had signed up to help decorate the school auditorium for the holiday parade. That involved climbing a ladder to help hang a banner.
Nettie stared up at the top of the ladder. Her palms were so sweaty she thought everyone would notice. She began wondering if she should hide out at the back of the gymnasium or get someone to take her place hanging the banner.
"What's the matter?" Dominic asked with a concerned voice.
"Oh, nothing," replied Nettie, trying to look calm. However, of all the people who could have asked her what was wrong, she knew her friend, Dominic, would understand.
"Well," she said. "I'm not too good with heights. I wish I didn't have to climb this ladder."
"Oh, is that it?" he asked, relieved. "That's not such a big problem after all. I can help you if you want to give it a try. I can even climb the ladder myself. Did you know that I hung the banner for the last holiday parade?"
"Thanks," smiled Nettie. "I may take you up on that offer."
