Every minute, a manufacturer increases of a chemical compound by the same number of degrees. The compound was 10 degrees celsius at 9:00 a.m. when the factory opened, and it is 22 degrees celsius at 9:15 a.m. What was the temperature of the compound at 10:25 a.m.?

Explanation:

in 15 minutes (from 9:00am to 9:15am) it increased by 22-10 = 12°C

that means the increase is

12/15 degrees per minute = 4/5°C per minute.

at 10:25am it is 70 minutes later than 9:15am (60 minutes = 1 hour later would be 10:15am).

that means there was an increase of

70 × 4/5 = 14 × 4 = 56°C

so, the temperature of the compound was then

22 + 56 = 78°C
