In a Shakespearean tragedy, the last man speaking is the one who restores order, and sort of “wins” at the end. Why do you think in Romeo and Juliet he chooses Prince Escalus to end/ “win” the play?

Answer: because prince Escalus arrives and stops the riot, forbidding any further outbreaks of violence on pain of death. He saved both family's from losing anybody more people.
