Answer:

y = 4

Explanation:

(1)/(4) x +
(1)/(8) y = 2

multiply through by 8 ( the LCM of 4 and 8 ) to clear the fractions

2x + y = 16 → (1)

(1)/(3) x +
(1)/(2) y = 4

multiply through by 6 ( the LCM of 3 and 2 ) to clear the fractions

2x + 3y = 24 → (2)

subtract (1) from (2) term by term to eliminate x

0 + 2y = 8

2y = 8 ( divide both sides by 2 )

y = 4
